An often overlooked part of dentistry is the role of the bite on the teeth, the joints, and the gum and bone that supports the teeth. Tooth wear, joint and muscle pain, gum recession, and tooth mobility are all related to imbalances and incoordination of the bite and joint structures. These can occur naturally or be the result of dentistry that has been done without adequate consideration for bite and function. Much of my continuing education has involved the consequences and treatment of bite irregularities, and every patient evaluation will include examination for signs and symptoms of bite related problems.
